“To find water…drill deep in one place only”-Nisargadatta
“…suffering is based on an unhealed sense of ‘lack’ in oneself, in the world / others, or both. In therapy, we see how overly strong desires and anxieties are signposts. The signs point to our stories about lack, and about a hope for perfect certainty, knowledge, control. The more at peace each person can be with trust, wisdom, and agency instead, the more they can release the sense of lack, craving, and fear, and can help others to do so.” – Me
The world will not improve much until this issue of lack is addressed for each individual, in the way they currently can and, eventually, to the full extent that they can. It is difficult to address this issue en masse, because there is such a vested interest for mass media to ignore or even disparage the message. The message is that it simply does not work to heal deeper and deeper, more and more comprehensive aspects of a felt sense of ‘lack’ by way of accumulating more and more physical or psychological ‘stuff’ to fill the emptiness.
We all need what we need to keep going, maybe even with some icing. But the comparative, competitive, perfection-seeking game is a losing one.
